Went to USA in 1957 as research assistant (cancer research) to Professor Carl Tabb Bahner, in Jefferson City, Tennesse.
Later worked at MD Anderson Hospital and Tumour Institute, Houston, Texas with Dr Thomas Osdene.
In 1959 joined Wyeth Laboratories in Pennsylvania later transferring to the International division where he worked on a process to produce medicinal steroids (corticosteroids and sex hormones) from the Dioscorea tuber. Transferred that process to production scale at the Wyeth facility in Bombay, India (1961-65) and later establish plantations of the tuber in Bangalore, India (1966).
Worked in the Middle East, West Africa and South Africa before joining Abbott Laboratories in 1969 and taking up the post of General Manager of their Turkish manufacturing affiliate in 1971.
In 1973 returned to India as Managing Director of Abbott India to prepare the company for an expansion into fine chemicals and an issue of shares to the public.
Returned to UK as a permanent resident in 1977 as a consultant to the pharmaceutical industry but became involved in the organisation of mass participation sporting events, latterly, with Bobby Moore former captain of the 1996 England football team. Events organised included Sport Aid (1984/86), Great British Fun Run (a 2,200 mile round Britain relay), Manchester Biathlon (for the Manchester Olympic Bid) and scores of local road races. Chairman of London Road Runners (5,000+ members) 1982-1986.
From 1992 until retirement in 2002, acted as an independent computer consultant primarily writing software for small-medium businesses.
Currently Chairman of Save Our Waterways (www.saveourwaterways.org) a campaign organisation seeking to secure the long term future of Britain's inland waterways.
