Note for:   George CHAPMAN,   14 Oct 1914 - 1925         Index

Individual Note:
George was the result of a liaison between his mother after the death of Robert Harry CHAPMAN in 1911. She took out a breach of promise case against the father but he was already married. She lost the case apparently because father was able to afford a good lawyer. She moved to Derby to avoid the scandal and it was probably at this time that her three older children (Ellen, William and Elizabeth) were put into an orphanage. Choice of Derby seems to have been influenced by the fact that her brother George lived at 71 Cameron Road, Normanton. The youngest, Violet, joined her when she moved in with Mr MADDOCKS. George died of appendicitus in 1925.
